Is your team slacking? Do you sometimes feel difficult driving your team? A lot of entrepreneurs and managers think “How do I make my team look forward and commit to their goals and be more proactive?”. As an entrepreneur you need your team beside you 24/7, motivated and committed. Here are a few steps to do so.
1) Get your Hands Dirty
Inspire your team by working with them. Let them know that they are your equals and there is nothing that hinders you from helping them out. Don’t use the word “EMPLOYEE “and don’t treat them like “YOU WORK FOR ME”. Treat them like “YOU WORK WITH ME”. A leader is never tired and he has no bad days. The leader has to have more energy than anybody else. You can’t expect more of your team than you expect of yourself.
2) Find the “Tick”
People are motivated by different things. Some are motivated by money, some by recognition and some by having an impact. You need to know every person’s motivation on your team. If they are motivated by money, show them how they can make more money. If they are motivated by recognition, then show them some recognition, appreciate them, make them the employee of the month. If they are motivated by having an impact, show them how they can have an impact on the community by working in your company. In short play to each person’s motivation so they give you their best.
3)Train Them
Most people bring in employees, expecting them to know everything and hit the ground running. Most often they don’t. You will show them and teach them the basics, but is that enough? What more you can do is get them interacted with experienced people of the company. Bring in people from the head offices and share experiences. Make them see that its more than an organization to work for. Be an organization that helps them grow and always have room for mistakes. Make it a place where people go to work because they love the training and development they get. Augment your knowledge with other experts’ knowledge or people from other organizations that can come in and share their expertise to help built your team.
